Exploring Internet Technologies
I was invited to participate in the Programming track at Balticon 2017. I may even be conducting one of my workshops there, although details are still up in the air.
Note: (2017/07/15) I did end up running a workshop called: “”Is Your Setting Strong Enough to Support a Series?”
I just ran a workshop, “Bringing Settings to Life,” for the Loudoun County SF and Fantasy Writers group.
I was the Technical Chair in charge of A/V and technical operations for the Toastmasters District 29 Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) on July 23, 2016. Held at the Verizon headquarters in Ashburn, VA.
It’s basically a half-day, five-track training session for about a hundred people, with an A/V setup for all of the rooms.

I worked with Chiharu Bullock to run a four-week, four-session course on public speaking for a group of 11 – 15 year-old kids. The course was organized in conjunction with Toastmasters and Union Tae Kwan Do in South Riding, VA.
I’m giving a two-hour workshop, “Creating an Adaptive Setting,” at Capclave 2015. From 10:00 AM to noon on October 10th.
My friend and fellow conference organizer, Gray Herter, just sent me a picture he took of me speaking at the DevIgnition Conference at Booz Allen Hamilton’s Newman Auditorium in McLean, VA. This is another of the 37 plus places that I’ve spoken at, although it was a very, very nice venue. There were roughly 150 attendees present at the event.
I’ll be conducting a 2-hour worksop entitled “Public Speaking for Writers” at Capclave 2014. On October 12th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Note that authors Tom Doyle and Donna Royston attended the workshop.
Here’s a preview of the new RubyNation 2014 logo. This year’s challenge was to integrate an iconic Washington DC landmark with the ubiquitous ruby gemstone motif that’s so prevalent in the Ruby language community.
A more line-oriented version of this logo is going to look awesome on the conference T-shirts next week.
I’ve put in a proposal to give an advanced talk on Apache SOLR, indexing strategies, and enforcement of complex security policies. The conference will be held February 24 – 28 in San Francisco, CA. My partner for this talk will be Jonathan Quigg from Data Tactics.
